The Reformation The Reformation: think Martin Luther. Martin Luther was upset over the corruption within the Catholic Church. Catholic clergy were selling "indulgences" - kind of like a 'get into heaven free card'. He hung a list of 95 thesis, or ideas, protesting the Catholic Church, on the door of a church in Germany. Because of the new printing press - these ideas were printed up and spread all over Europe. Because of this movement Protestants were born - and the Catholic Church lost power. Now Christians are split between Catholics and Protestants.
