The Plague (Black Death) The Plague was a disease that spread through Europe and Asia during the middle of the 1300's. Millions of people died, especially in crowded cities that had poor sanitation and poor knowledge of medicine. It is estimated that one out of three people in Europe died of  The Plague. The disease apparently was spread by rats and came from China along trade routes.
