Thur 5/1	Creation of  Israel	Students will read about and discuss (using accountable talk) the creation of Israel in an otherwise Islamic Middle East.
Wed 4/30	OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.)	Students will read about, and analyze documents about OPEC and its importance on the US economy. The staggering amount of oil and gas used in the US will be discussed using SUV's as an example of excesses.
Tue 4/29	Creation of Pakistan	Discussion of Creation of Pakistan along with film clips from Gandhi that show creation of Pakistan (separation of Hindus and Muslims).
Mon 4/28	Nelson Mandela and South Africa	Students will view and discuss various documents and readings about South Africa, Apartheid and Nelson Mandela.
Fri 4/18	Nelson Mandela and South Africa	Students will do an in-class blog about Apartheid and Nelson Mandela.
Thur 4/17	African Independence	Students will view powerpoint and do reading about African Independence.
Wed 4/16	Review Quiz - then Begin African Independence	Students will review their quizzes; then will do a blog posting on African Independence.
Tue 4/15	Quiz	Students will see 2 brainpops: Cold War and Communism.  Then take quiz.

Wed 4/2	Cold War	Thematic Essay on The Cold War. Students have one 42-minute class period to write a five paragraph Thematic Essay about the Cold War. Students were given the question on Monday.
Tue 4/1	Cold War	2nd day of two-day blogging session.
Mon 3/31	Cold War	Students will have two class periods to work on three new blog entrys. Also - students will be given a thematic essay question that they will write in class on Wed.
Fri 3/28	Cold War	Film: "The Right Stuff". Students will see selected scenes from this Cold War drama.
Thur 3/27	Cold War	Students will revieve directions for individual podcast project due on May 1. Then Students will read documents about the Cold War and discuss.
Wed 3/26	Cold War	Students will do text reading and questions as a warm-up to The Cold War.
Tue 3/25	Quiz: WW II + Holocaust	Students will review quiz from Monday and then re-take. 2nd quiz will count as a 50-point quiz.
Mon 3/24	Quiz: WW II + Holocaust	Students will view a Brainpop flash cartoon about The Holocaust before taking quiz.

Mon 3/10	Atomic Bombs and DBQ Review	Students will view documents and photographs of the bombings at Pearl Harbor and Hiroshima/Nagasaki. A review on proper DBQ essay writing will follow.
Fri 3/7	WW II	Students will review more WW II powerpoints, then view two brainpops; "Hitler" and "WW II".

This quiz covers many topics. Thur 2/15	Rise of Fascism and the road to WW II	Students will see selected scenes from "The Great Dictator",  which is a comical take on the relationship between Hitler and Mussolini. Will also view documentary footage about the making of this controversial film.
Thur 2/14	Appeasement and Japanese Imperialism	Students will read and analyze documents about the Appeasement of Hitler and the rise of Japanese Imperialism in the Pacific.
Wed 2/13	Rise of Fascism	Readings and documents on the rise of the totalitarian governments of Hitler and Mussolini.
Tue 2/12	Rise of Fascism	Text reading and questions about the rise of Hitler and the road to WW II.
Mon 2/11	The Treaty of Versailles	Reading and blog entry on the Treaty of Versailles. First three blogs due Wed 2/13 @ 6 pm.
Fri 2/8	Mustafa Kemal and Modern Turkey	Brief lecture on the post-WW I demise of the Ottoman Empire and the rise of modern Turkey. Then a blog entry on Mustafa Kemal and modern Turkey.
Thur 2/7	Gandhi and Indian Independance	Students will work on a blog about Gandhi and Indian Independance.
Wed 2/6	Gandhi and Indian Independance	Students will watch selected scenes from Gandhi. Then will recieve mini-lecture about the importance of letters of recommendation for college.
